In 1928, Pierre Moncuit started to sell wines under his own name from the vines his father purchased in 1889 in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
Since the 1980’s, Nicole Moncuit, Pierre’s daughter, has made the wines, becoming one of the first female winemakers in Champagne. Her daughter, Valérie, joined the estate in 2007 and the two have acted as a duet in leading the domaine.
Champagne Pierre Moncuit owns 20ha planted exclusively to Chardonnay (15ha in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and 5ha in Sézanne) and have among the highest average vineyard age of any producer in Champagne (50+ years) prioritizing quality over yield.
Le Mesnil-sur-Oger is one of Champagne’s most celebrated Grand Cru villages, located in the Côte des Blancs. It is planted almost entirely to Chardonnay, producing some of the region’s most refined and age-worthy Blanc de Blancs. The terroir is defined by deep chalk soils, which give the wines their hallmark tension, minerality, and longevity. Le Mesnil wines are typically steely and precise in youth, developing layered complexity, creaminess, and brioche notes with age. Alongside neighbouring villages like Avize and Cramant, it stands at the pinnacle of Chardonnay terroir in Champagne.
