From Huet’s walled Clos du Bourg on the Première Côte, where ~1 m of topsoil sits over solid tuffeau limestone—powerful site, chalky precision. Hand-harvested in successive passes; intact bunches are pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in a ~50/50 mix of tank and old demi-muids, then held in old barrels over winter (no MLF pursued)
Huet ‘Clos du Bourg’ Vouvray Demi-Sec 2022
Domaine Huet was founded in 1928 and farms ~30–35 ha of Chenin on three historic, tuffeau-based sites: Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont and Clos du Bourg. A pioneer of biodynamics in the Loire (Demeter-certified), Huet hand-harvests and vinifies parcel by parcel, using native yeasts in a mix of tanks and old demi-muids; malolactic is generally avoided.
Vouvray sits on tuffeau (soft chalk) capped by clay-siliceous layers along the Loire’s right bank—soils that deliver high-acid, mineral Chenin Blanc in a full stylistic spectrum from sec to richly sweet (moelleux/doux). Warm years allow botrytis and late harvesting via multiple tries, underpinning benchmark sweet wines like Constance.
