Monchiero 'Rocche di Castiglione' Barolo 2019
Nestled in Castiglione Falletto, at the heart of the Barolo region, Monchiero Winery is a family-owned estate with roots dating back to the 1950s. Founded by brothers Remo and Maggiorino Monchiero, the winery began by selling grapes before transitioning to winemaking in the 1970s. Their bottled Barolo became a sought-after export to the USA, while their young wines catered to the Italian market.
In the 1980s, the second generation, led by Vittorio Monchiero, brought fresh expertise after graduating from Alba's viticulture college. Vittorio and his wife Daniela modernized the winery in the 1990s, focusing on tradition, innovation, and expanding production through the acquisition of prime vineyards.
Today, Monchiero Winery remains a testament to the family’s dedication to Barolo, with the third generation actively involved. Vittorio's eldest son Luca joined the business in 2017, while Stefano, the younger son, is preparing to continue the family's legacy through studies in agricultural sciences. The Monchiero name stands as a symbol of quality and tradition in Barolo winemaking.
Barolo, one of Italy's most renowned wine regions, is celebrated for its powerful and complex wines made from the Nebbiolo grape. Located in Piedmont, Barolo spans 11 communes, each with unique terroir influences. Among them, Novello stands out for its softer soils and slightly cooler climate, producing Barolos that are elegant, aromatic, and approachable. Known for a balance of vibrant fruit, refined tannins, and floral notes, wines from Novello showcase a more delicate expression of Barolo’s timeless character.
