This Grand Cru wine is produced between Flagey-Echezeaux and Vosne-Romanée, from a 0.30-hectare plot (approximately 0.75 acre) located at the mouth of the Combe d'Orveau. The site benefits from excellent ventilation, which enhances the wine's finesse. The 60-year-old vines are planted in clay-limestone soil with a gravel and clay surface over a hard limestone substrate.
Echezeaux Grand Cru is distinguished by its structure and depth, built on tannins that provide a firm and precise texture. The wine offers a restrained yet complex aromatic profile, featuring notes of smoke, lichen, black fruits, and sweet spices. Its smooth mineral finish is remarkably persistent.
While this wine has an aging potential of 10 to 20 years, it also exhibits an accessible Grand Cru character in its youth. For optimal enjoyment within the first five years, decanting one hour before serving is recommended. The winemaking process includes 50% whole-bunch fermentation, with the wine aged for approximately 18 months in barrels, 20% of which are new.
René Bouvier Echezeaux Grand Cru 2022
Domaine René Bouvier, a family-owned estate, spans 30 hectares (approximately 74 acres) of vineyards, all located in the Côte de Nuits. Situated in Gevrey-Chambertin, the estate has been under the management of Bernard Bouvier since 1992.
The domaine produces an extensive portfolio of 26 wines, ranging from Bourgogne appellations to prestigious Grand Crus such as Charmes-Chambertin and Echezeaux. All grapes are harvested by hand, with 23 hectares (approximately 57 acres) dedicated to red wines and 7 hectares (approximately 17 acres) to white wines. Among these is Marsannay Le Clos, a monopole vineyard exclusively owned by the estate.
The vineyards stretch from the historic terroirs of the Dukes of Burgundy near Dijon to the renowned village of Vosne-Romanée. Most of the estate’s climats, or vineyard plots, are situated in the appellations of Marsannay, Fixin, and Gevrey-Chambertin, reflecting the rich diversity and heritage of the region.
Echezeaux Grand Cru, located between Flagey-Echezeaux and Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is renowned for its elegance and complexity. Echezeaux wines are characterized by firm, precise tannins and a complex aromatic profile, featuring notes of black fruits, sweet spices, smoke, and lichen, complemented by a smooth, persistent mineral finish. With an aging potential of 10 to 20 years, this Grand Cru also offers remarkable approachability in its youth, embodying the finesse of Burgundy’s premier vineyards.
